How the Body Positive Movement Helped Me Embrace My Size

Here I am a lovely 28 years old and I can finally say I am becoming completely comfortable in my skin. I Never thought I would say this but some of that is due to the help of social media. Following Plus size models seeing videos and pictures of women who look just like me who are apologetically sexy and confident makes me so incredibly happy. Why not? It should be a no brainer, no matter what size, shape, height or weight, you should be able to look in the mirror and be happy with what you see in the mirror.

I can't quite remember when the #bodypositive movement became something I was aware of but slowly I started to see beautiful, curvy plus sized women start showing up on my news feed on Instagram. In the past 10 years my size has fluctuated anywhere between a size 10/12 to a size 16/18 and it can become very difficult being a larger size when the majority of your life has been spent being pretty average sized. I love clothes and shopping but the larger the size on my pants the harder it became to find items that I wanted to wear. I needed inspiration and luckily for me it was plentiful. Seeing women of different sizes,  better yet, the similar sizes to me be fashionable and unafraid to look fly as fuck, made me so happy. It may seem weird to have complete strangers inspire you but I am learning inspiration can come from anywhere.

I cannot say that there aren't days that I wish I could go back to the days when I could easily fit in a single digit size and when I didn't have to worry about whether or not something would fit me. What makes me so happy about this movement is it isn't just for plus sized women It is for any one of any size who may need someone else to show them just how perfect they already are.
